Plan to Establish Communist County in Heartland

The Chicago Tribune condemns a hypothetical communist experiment, proposing they relocate to a Kansas or Texas county with ample land buy on long terms, split into two hundred to three hundred family townships, and live communally. It imagines bonds, host population removal, minimal education, no churches, and no labor-saving machinery, all aimed at creating a society sharing all goods and living on basic needs.

The article argues for a national medical reform by establishing a public examining board to assess knowledge of medicine and surgery, preventing quackery, and ensuring uniform standards across the United Kingdom. It notes English practice, contrasts European systems, and envisions a U.S. council to license doctors while preserving degrees for education and honors.

Draft horse breeding seen as promising business

The National Live Stock Journal notes growing demand and rising prices for large draft and carriage horses. Prof Horsford describes the Vienna Kaiser-Semmel wheat bread and Semmel Brod as smooth compact loaves with yellowish interiors, light porous texture and faint sweetness.
