Night Burglary Fails as Clerks Pincers and Dog deter Thieves
In New York City during winter 1849, Herbert's Jelly establishment is robbed at night by two burglars. Clerk Loring, unarmed, uses a caustic liquid to deter them, then frees a dog to alarm neighbors. A fight ensues, watchmen arrive, and one thief escapes biting by pincers. Bill Sikes is captured, jailed at Blackwell's Island.
