Remarkable sunken lake sighted near Cascade Mountains

The Sentinel from Jackson ville Oregon reports a visit to a sunken lake in the Cascade Mountains about seventy five miles northeast of Jacksonville. It describes perpendicular walls and unknown depth, a twelve by ten mile expanse, and notes rifle tests and a belief no man can reach the water edge. Also included are brief items on Edwin Booth’s hand injury, a boy’s death in Ashton, haying oxen methods, advertising benefits, Morse telegraph competition, and other local curiosities.
