Disaster at sea claims many lives near Cape Race

A ship collided with an unknown propeller off Cape Race on the 27th. Only thirty-two persons are known to be saved, eight have arrived here. Captain Luce, Mrs. E. K. Collins, and family are among the lost.

Secondary dispatch reports the Arctic colliding with a propeller about noon on the 27th, forty miles off Cape Race in dense fog. The Arctic leaked rapidly as all sails were set and fires extinguished, causing panic on board. Many took to a raft. most who remained perished, while some were saved by the barque Huron and later reached the Lebanon.
