In Kentucky, Nasby recalls a drunken feud over temperance lectures at the Corners led by Deekin Pogram and Issaker Cravitt. Bascom refused a temperance lecture and signage. friends staged a weeklong binge to overwhelm the lecturer, after which Bascom relented, the sign read free liquor, and the attempt to curb drinkers failed. Joe Bigler later reveals motives: to drain supplies, topple Bascom, and organize Black patrons, yet only succeeded in the latter.
