A late autumn issue advises relief for chapped hands caused by wind and dampness. It recommends borax water wash, a home ointment from mutton tallow and glycerine, and for hands at night a warm rub with gloves to soften skin. A glycerine ointment with almond oil and wax is also described.

Two Leadville miners were shafting near Chalkranche when an avalanche buried Wilson at the shaft bottom. His partner escaped to Leadville and alerted four men who spent Saturday finding Wilson frozen but alive. They revived him and brought him to Robinson's Camp. doctors hold faint hopes for recovery.
Portland Argus promotes ITop Ditters as a sure cure for ague biliousness and kidney complaints. The ad urges those afflicted to try them and promises enthusiastic praise of their curative qualities.
A drawn out snow blocking a coal wagon on Walnut Street creates a street scene. An Irish coal man and mule stubbornly shovel through two to three feet of snow while streetcar drivers, conductors, and curious bystanders watch. Police arrive to help move the wagon to the curb as a crowd cheerfully records the comic delay. The mule finally yields to coordinated effort.
Andrew's Bazar reports a humorous remark by a lady who owns an amiable husband. She explains, with a sweet smile, that she achieved perfection in him by using a croquet mallet as the tool of influence.

A New York legislature bill proposes after July 1 1882 all city telegraph wires be laid underground by telegraph telephone district messenger or electric light companies or any corporation or person. After that date wires above ground may not be used for telegraphic or electric lighting within city limits except inside buildings where entry is requested or owned or leased by a company or person using telegraph wires.
Local advertisement claims Curtey’s Little Liver Pills will positively cure sick headache and prevent its return. The copy asserts this is truth not talk, claiming one pill dose and noting sellers Emimert & Burrell. See advertisement.
A brief notice promotes Spring Blossom as an almost infallible cure for indigestion and dyspepsia. It advertises trial size at 10 cents and regular size at 50 cents, urging readers to avoid lingering in misery.
