An ornate lyric narrative unfolds a speaker's delirious longing and colonial gaze. The speaker conjures lush imagery of gardens, perfumes, and the Nile, then shifts to primal wildness as a tiger, lover, and battlescape converge. The poem balances erotic desire with mythic violence and a yearning for vanished passion.

A Sioux bandrobs a stagecoach and discovers a clothes wringer. Misunderstanding it as a barrel organ they attempt to play it by various means. After brutal failures and a slain medicine man, they abandon the effort and bury the wringer and the doctor, ending their arts experiments.
