Lurning of the Steamer Griffith Sinks Nearby
The Griffith burned early this morning about seven o clock fifteen miles from shore while headed to Cleveland. The ship struck Bear Point Bar and burned to the main deck. Reports claim two hundred souls perished with only forty saved on shore. Captain Roby and family died. the Delaware arrived with a few survivors. A grim shore scene and numerous bodies were recovered by afternoon.
