After Pope Boniface XI died in 1304 the French and Italian factions in the conclave shaped a plan led by Philip VI. Bertrand Gol of Bordeaux was recruited to secure a papal election with seven conditions, the seventh kept secret. Clement VI later supported destroying the Knights Templar to aid Philip. In Paris a coinage riot sparked by Philip led to accusations against the Templars by two impostors, Gerard Lake and Benoit Mehay, precipitating the 1307 arrest of Templars and seizures of their wealth. The pope and Charles IV moved to suppress the order, culminating in trials and detention.
The account recounts James de Molay arriving with sixty Knights of the Order in Paris. They endured torments without confessing to crimes, and fifty seven were burned in one day, then fifty nine the next, as the ritual mass execution continued. The Pope and Philip the Fair were not among the first victims.

It claims plots against Governor Boggs, secret police surveillance of Gentiles, and a climate of fear maintained by Danite oaths. The piece urges federal protection for Utah residents against Mormon authorities.
The Society of Friends reports growth with about 1,500 new members in the past year and broader participation in business meetings. Nationwide presence includes 12 yearly meetings with 82,000 members, widespread Sunday Schools, several colleges, and rising activity in the South and West including Kansas and Missouri. The Fifteenth Amendment gains ratification by Florida and likely by Iowa and Vermont, with Mississippi and Texas remaining to ratify as a reconstruction condition.
