Fonaresstonal Convention Nomination in Dixon

The Third District Republican convention met at Dixon on the 5th at the Court House with James K. Edsall presiding. A. C. Jackson Eng. was elected temporary chairman and a large credentials committee reported delegates from Jo Daviess, Stephenson, Carroll, Ogle, Lee, Whiteside, and Whiteside counties. The body nominated Congress candidate E. B. Washburne by unanimous vote and designated a cent contractor for the Congressional Central Committee. Gen. Adkins addressed the gathering urging support for Grant and Colfax.
