Beet sugar venture moves to Freeport with new plant
The Prairie Farmer reports the beet sugar project relocating from Chatsworth to Freeport Illinois. Charles Hinshel, J I Case and Roesentiel plan a modern factory on Yellow Creek with stone brick buildings and costly machinery. Beet supply reaches about 50 tons daily for $4.50 a ton at factory, $4.00 at railheads, with 200 acres grown on site and 500 contracted within an eighteen mile radius. Planting faced issues from light seed flea beetle and cutworm, but growth looks promising and storage facilities are added for winter.
