The Howard House rises from Brewster era ruin
The Brewster House, later the Howard House, was rebuilt after 1856 57 on Stephenson Street in Freeport. Under new owner Mr. Howard extensive refinishing refurnishing and overhauls totaling about 115000 transformed the four story brick hotel into a first class establishment with sixty guest rooms and modern utilities. Opening festivities in 1866 featured music dancing and speeches as citizens celebrated a restored hotel in the city.
