The sixth annual gathering convened in the new Court House as Lewis Elsworth opened the meeting with Gen. Smith D. Atkins delivering the welcome and Ellsworth the opening address. A business committee set the exercises with three daily sessions through Friday. many horticulturists from Illinois and neighboring states expected, with arrivals already noted and more trains bringing guests. Citizens urged prompt hospitality and strong local support for a successful event. Representatives from Chicago Tribune, Prairie Farmer and Western Rural were present, and local agents offered remedies for coughs and colds.
