A July Paris visit by six gentlemen from different nations toured Monsieur Decauville s 1200 acre farm near Petit Bourg exploring steam powered orchard and rail tramways light iron track for farm use and the Thomery pear plan They observed steam plows traction engines tramways beets distillation for spirits and efficient threshing noting straw uses and grain losses while praising modern machinery and farming under European practice.

The proprietor bakes for them cheaply, wages on the farm compare well with American rates, and profits are satisfactory. A splendid mansion lunch followed before a pleasant ride to the railroad station.
