Montgomery County Missouri Prospective settler notes growth
From Wellsville Missouri a correspondent reports on Montgom ery County showing rail proximity to St Louis and Herman. He cites wine production, lumber prices, forage costs, and rich crops despite drought. Population includes Virginians and Germans with strong Union heritage. Enterprise thrives with mills, a woolen factory, new courthouse, two agricultural societies, and rising land values from four to twenty dollars per acre. John Barfoot endorses the region for horticulture minded settlers.
