Reflections on Society and Charity Plus Fourth of July Funds
A fragmented 1877 column laments social snobbery and calls for empathy toward the less fortunate. It contrasts Christian charity with class prejudice and praises steadfast, cheerful aid to others. The piece includes a report of Fourth of July expenditures totaling 812.26, with notes on receipts, unpaid subscriptions, and a Bray Sisters benefit. It also lists unclaimed post office letters, market notes, and local administration details.
