New Jersey elects a Democratic U S Senator last week

Committee recommends $500000 for Pacific Mail contract payment

The Congressional Appropriations Committee, in its report on the Post Office Appropriation bill, recommends a $500,000 appropriation to fulfill the original contract with the Pacific Mail Steamship Co under the act of Feb 17 1863, but rejects funding under the Subsidy act.

Fire hits Navy Department records three times in a week

At 5 o clock last Friday a fire was found on the upper floor of the Navy Department building in Washington where records were ignited. It marks the third blaze in a week and the incendiary's name and motive remain undisclosed.

Election timing changes for Congress members

The Forty fourth Congress election period will end in November after a June start, lasting seventeen months. A new law will require states to elect Representatives on the same day, the Tuesday after the first Monday in November, for quicker, clearer expression of the people. Albany Journal No Y.

A Washington special reports many Ohio Republicans including delegation members differ on the strongest candidate for governor next fall. They agree ex Governor Dennison is the most available rival to likely Democrat William Allen if he will accept the nomination. Ridott Grange No 189 met at Mr Hunt's Hall on a January Saturday in 1878 to install officers for 1875. J F Strunk presided, with John Swanzey delivering remarks urging unity, temperance, and dedication to Patrons of Husbandry, praising agricultural fellowship and predicting strong influence on commerce. Annual Contest at River Seminary with Lectures
