A Raleigh inspired tale at Northrop follows Dolly a maid who becomes a wife after a village fire destroys the bakery and a young gardener Harry Mills wins her heart The benevolent widow Mrs Milicent Mayhew hides a cottage and plans a Christmas wedding within a warm community setting The story ends with Dolly and Harry happily settled in a new home as the town rejoices.
A London blackmailing case centers on Slade and Greek Theodorides who, after a broken engagement in 1875, withheld letters and demanded $2,500 from her. The letters were then sold back to her for $100 by Theodorides who claimed they were all he held. Galera threatened to publish the letters, prompting legal action. The prisoners were sentenced to seven years' penal servitude.
A reader seeks help naming newborn twins and the Herald jokes with playful suggestions including Sitting Bull and Spotted Tail.
