Disturbing death by suicide in Rochelle involves seventeen year old Mary Wiltse, daughter of a local farmer, who left a note and was found dead after taking poison. The Prairie Farmer, published at Chicago, proclaims itself the cheapest and most reliable agricultural paper in the Northwest. It highlights wide original content, strong reporting, and favors new subscribers with a free Prairie Farmer Annual for 1869, valued at 80 cents.
Dr Andrew McFarland, Superintendent of the Illinois State Hospital for the Insane, thanks for a copy of an address read before the Western Association for the Promotion of Social Science. The address is titled What shall be done with the Insane of the West.
Upward and Onward is the motto of McCutcheon & Son who run a new hat and cap store a few doors east of Commercial block. Their stock includes hats caps gloves and canes and is advertised as attractive to all ages. Prices are said to be astonishingly low with goods of high quality.

A clerk accuses merchant Wynn of false claims to savings and price control. He notes Wynn’s boast of no competition while others pay rent, arguing that his own ability to undercut prices stems from not paying rent. The complaint was raised to L L Munn on Monday of the week.
To the Public a hand bill dated the 14th titled Hum. Bug claims no reference to Mr. F. Bartlett’s offering to his customers. The author defends Bartlett as straightforward and honorable, stating the inside details align with his promises.

Special meetings of the Common Council were held last Saturday evening and Tuesday morning. The principal action was the passage of an amendment to one city ordinance, the text of which is published.
The proprietor Mr H M Buck mah of Stines clothing hall plans to move from 96 Stephenson Street to open a new fires class room in the near future. Local merchants Van Sloten and Collman will relocate to the property during the transition.
