Personal gossip from Freeport recounts Rev J B Carey of Waterloo leaving for the Rast on Monday. Rev Mr Ruston preached in Kimbury church Sunday evening. W B White, formerly of Freeport, sold his Rochelle photograph gallery. Rev R A Proctor returned to the city from Colorado last Friday and reports friends in good condition. Mentions of Miss Butler visiting from Princeton and Eugene Brown in town from Davenport. Agricultural Society sale committee named and sale procedures outlined with September 11 as sale day.
Joseph Cavanagh a long time sufferer from consumption died yesterday morning around 2 o'clock He was a fair dealing tradesman noted for his willingness to aid others He left for Colorado recently but returned as the disease worsened Funeral services will be held today at three o'clock at his home on Stephenson Street with burial to follow He leaves a wife and child and many friends who remember him as an honest and helpful neighbor.
Street calling for subscriptions to a purse to be played for at the coming fair by area baseball clubs. The Agricultural Society offers a prize for the best club and the boys aim to raise a second prize to attract more clubs. They hope $75 for first and $50 for second, with promising progress so far.
Saturday evening a stack-yard belonging to Charles BE Welty of Waddams was set ablaze. Neighbors fought the flames with water brine and dirt while a favorable breeze saved nearby stacks. The next day a passing footstep was found, traced through two cornfields and stubble fields to a man who has threatened the stacks owner and others.

Mrs Eveline H Knowlton widow of D A Knowlton died while visiting Waukesha Wisconsin on August 19 after years of illness. She lived in Freeport since early days and her devoted love for husband and six children marked a life of charity and strong convictions. Her final rest is with the Rock of Ages as she departed peacefully.
