The Galena Advertiser reports a strong call for Whigs to remain firm and united, warning that desperate attempts will seek to sow dissatisfaction. It asserts the party’s deep foundation and warns opponents that Whigs are not easily swayed or dishonorable.
A party of about fifty Texans recently left the frontier to explore the Wichita mountains where immense gold deposits were rumored. An editor from the Texas Times joined and found no gold in the range, only mica and iron carbonate giving a yellow tint. At Little Rock, another party is forming to inspect the site.
The Franklin No. 2 and the Senator arrived Monday from St Paul after an election held last Monday for Delegate to Congress. Mr Sibley faced no opposition. The St Paul district elected William Forbes Jama McBoal as council, John J Dewey Henry Jackson Benjamin W Brunson and Warsons K Johnson as representatives. St Anthony Falls district elected W R Marshall and Mr Collin. The editorial notes politics should not enter the election and says observers disagree on adherence.
FeJ rink and Company now operate a daily stage line from Chicago to Rockford via St. Charles Genoa and Belvidere in connection with the railroad.
The Rockford Free Press reports an attempted kidnapping at Princeton Bureauco where four colored men were targeted. Prompt aid by freedom supporters led to the rescue and bail set for the alleged kidnappers, justice urged to stop such acts in the free state.
