Spring trade outlook extends into summer, hopes rise

The spring trade is expected to be light compared with last season and cautious dealer hopes persist. Yet the prolongation of the spring season into summer may still yield a favorable overall year in 1874.

Fashion Notes For Freeport Journal Readers

Chinese sun shades are white canvass with curious trimming. The handsomest spring suits are black silk embroidered on skirt and waist with jet beads. Undressed kid gloves are fashionably worn though they soil easily, especially on knuckles. Bonnets now sit flat on the head, opposite to last winter’s flaring style. Large bows of grosgrain ribbon trim some hats, mounted high on the left. Crepe de chine scarfs trim hats instead of veil goods. White grenadine makes pretty evening dresses and will be all the go this summer. The new Mexican cloth appears fashionable and may outshine grenadine for service and beauty.
