Railroad disaster near Shirkand floods blocks route
The culvert near Shirkand on the C Mx street pavement was washed away by recent floods. About four miles of railroad in the area are submerged with water up to four feet. No eastbound trains have run since Bronday, and roads remain blocked for several days.

Kenosha Division Opens After Eight Week Gap
The Kenosha Division of the C. N. W. Ry opened yesterday after an eight week pause as a train pushed through snow banks twelve feet deep. A drowning occurred when Aug Harde, about 22, of Harlem town, tried to cross the river by boat Saturday night. body recovered Sunday. The City Clerk’s annual report appears elsewhere in the issue with items of wide citizen and taxpayer interest.

Farming Pays: Guardian Sums Up 160 Acre Farm Payoff
In 1864 guardian A H Merlein took custody of 1249 49 and 160 acres in Silver Creek. After eighteen years he reports to County Court, turning over to Harn Merlein at majority the 160 acres and 26290 in cash as net increase from money and land. Easter Observed by Freeport Commandery in City Churches
Easter day services were held by Freeport Commandery at the Episcopal church at 4:30 p.m. Sir Knights, fifty two swords strong, gathered at their asylum at 4:00, formed lines, and marched to the church led by the band. Rev. Sweet preached a sermon on the orders aims and vows, urging members to join the church. A floral cross from Eminent Sir E. C. Warner was carried at the head of the procession by Sir Knight M. Stoskopf, as the commandery showed a knightly, precise appearance.

Doctor Hiram P Carey dies in Beloit Wisconsin
Telegram reports the sudden death of Dr Hiram P Carey formerly of Beloit Wisconsin and late of Kiantone New York born 1839. He studied at the University of Michigan Medical School and married the daughter of Charles H Rosenstiel. Illness pneumonia caused his death after a rapid decline.
