Advertisement notes Clayton's offers a choice stock of wallpaper in Freeport with easy terms. It advertises a residence at the corner of Lincoln Avenue and West Street on 18 10 acres able to be divided into three lots. Part payment accepted with remaining price in installments, dated January 3, 1874.
An old column promotes Wright Canai Co dealers in boots and shoes noting large sales in 1878 and urging readers to visit for roots and shoes. It highlights a latent seamless shoe as a future money maker and ends with a sales pitch for AYER S MEDICINE as a wise remedy.
Wotman and Janssen operate the peatest and pleas iest Confectionery in the civ city. The firm is noted for its distinct sweet offerings and steady customer base in the local trade.
An eastward sweep of offers fills Freeport with shop openings and heavy stock. Diffenbaugh tops oyster prices while Knipscheld opening a jewelry store the first Monday in April. Broad's wallpaper promotion, Freeport Carpet and Coverlet Factory stock reorders, Lehman touts low carpet prices and new patterns.

In a bold Freeport offer C G M Walton announces a vast stock of goods at up to 60 percent off. One striped dress goods lot, formerly 60 cents, now 25 cents, with many other lines priced around 40 cents on the dollar. He stresses the reduction applies to select items bought under peculiar circumstances, not a general market drop. He also highlights carpets, oil cloths, Ingram braqueels Wag, Bessy, and wall paper as part of the new stock.
Wm Walton returns from New York with an immense stock of dry goods and mothers, urging customers to shop at Hoffmann Janssen where prices are lowest and they will not be undersold. The note mentions a machine purchase and a free trimming service for paper buyers. It also covers plans for F Amerling to travel Europe for health, L K Scofield opening a nursery stock sale on Van Buren, and local township supervisor elections with new members marked by stars.
A printed bound book of poems by Clint Parkhurst of Town dedicated to surviving private soldiers of the seventeenth army corps. It features fine tinted paper, plain type, red border, full cloth binding and gilt edges. Callon Sanborn at 118 Stephenson Street to secure a copy early.
The largest stock of canned fruit ever brought to this city is now available at Hoffman and Janssens.
New firm Newcomer & Zuver opens at 147 Stephenson Street as merchant tailors. They warrant suits made by them to be suits. A formal notice from Stephenson County supervisors calls for a special meeting on April 29, 1874 at the Freeport courthouse.
