War Stories of the Red River Campaign and Ivan’s Translation
In a Civil War narrative, Ivan translates Spanish despatches that reveal a rebel plan to trap Union forces near Grand Reere. Generals Kilby Smith, A. J. Smith, and Wharton decide to use the translation to mount a night raid led by Mower, seizing a rebel brigade and baggage at a dawn surprise. The raid succeeds, boosting Union morale as Banks and Franklin arrive with reinforcements.
