Letter from H W Botenner of Lone Star dated March 24 1880 to Mn Timms in Orangeville Illinois states confidence from Freeport leaders and nearby towns that he could be nominated for sheriff but he cannot arrange creamery matters and will not run.
A local seller argues that many Freeport clothing houses rely on long-standing presence to justify high prices. They vow to offer better made garments at lower prices, claiming superior style and fit to draw customers away from rivals.

The pamphlet advertises Jamestown Alpaca Mills dress fabrics with guarantees of full width 27 inches, equal color to foreign goods, and thorough shrink resistance. It claims fabrics can be washed and ironed like linen without injury, offering assurance against dampness and wear. Sold by William Walton at 104 and 106 Stephenson Street.
