Four Officials Plead Guilty in Beef Rebate Case

Four officials of the Schwarzschild and Sulzberger packing company pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiring to violate the Elkins act by soliciting and receiving railroad rebates. They were fined a total of 25,000, and one defendant faced potential life pressure from worry. Samuel Weil received 10,000. Beth 8. Casey 5,000. Vance D. Skipworth 5,000. Cheas Ir. Todd 5,000. A 24,008 certified check was paid to court.

Five Die in Dual Train Collision in Pennsylvania

Five men were killed and eight injured when a pay train collided with a milk and passenger train at Roush's curve in Mount Holly Springs, Pennsylvania. Injured include John Amote, D. J. Zeilers, Alfred Hawn, Isaac Melrose, and others. Also reports of a fatal derailment near Clarkin, West Virginia, and testimony by George W. Perkins before a Morgan era insurance inquiry in New York.

Chicago Judge Rules On Wheat Contract Offer

Judge Tidge Gary held that an offer to contract for the site of wheat is distinct from a contract for an option and not a crime under the criminal code. Mark Bates sued Henry Woods after Woods refused to honor an offer to sell 60,000 bushels of wheat at 82 1/2 cents. The offer remained open until the next day. wheat’s price climbed to 84 1/4 cents, Bates sought the price difference when Woods declined to contract.

Disgraced girl ends life after street crisis in Minneapolis

Minneapolis reports a young woman identified as Ell Kent walked into the Mississippi River from the Central Avenue bridge and disappeared as rescuers tried to intervene. She had recently faced arrest for shoplifting items from a department store, with societal disgrace adding to her distress.

Taggart denies soliciting funds from New York Life

New York, Sept 22 Chairman Taggart of the Democratic national committee arrived from Indianapolis and contradicted President McCall of New York Life before the legislative Insurance Investigation committee. He said no member of the national committee or any agent ever asked Mr Meal for a delay and no authorized representative asked for a contribution from any insurance company.

A treaty of general registration between Spain and Toelignen was signed by King Afonso. A violent quake occurred Wednesday morning at Urm**ero, with no injuries reported. A.
