Governor Altgeld Attacks Gold Policy In Chicago Speech

Governor Altgeld spoke to a packed Music Hall on Saturday night in Chicago denouncing the gold standard as a threat to the American republic. A street parade preceded the event and large crowds filled the halls and surrounding streets with fervent applause and chants. Meanwhile Senator Thurston addressed a 12,000 seat Republican tent, delivering a lengthy analysis of current economic issues.

Curious Nomination Certificate in Topeka

In Topeka Kansas on September 21 the nomina tion certificates for the Populist national and state tickets were filed. The certificate lists Bryan and Watson as presidential and vice presidential nominees while the Democratic electors named are for Bryan and Sewall. The Democratic electors were endorsed by the Populist state convention in exchange for Populist support of the state ticket.

Fusion talks move toward combine in Kentucky politics

In Louisville on September 21 Chairman P P Johnston of the Democratic state central committee met with Populist leaders J A Parker and L K Taylor. The Populists left the city and Johnston refused to speak, but it is accepted that a fusion is agreed upon with only details to be fixed before public release.

General Alger party to tour Midwest with stops

The General Alger party led by Generals Alger, Sickles, Sigel, Mulholland and Corporal Tanner meets at the Chicago Editorium tonight then travels by rail, stopping in Kenosha Racine and Milwaukee. Planned visits include Madison La Crosse on the 28th and West Superior Duluth on the 24th.

Bank Robberry Accused in Union National Case
