The C O D store proclaims itself the largest and cheapest in the state with fruits of all kinds in season, canned goods, teas, sugars, and groceries sold by the basket, pack, or carload. It touts fresh melons weekly from growers, canned goods, and widespread discounts with goods delivered throughout the city.
A Newport yacht race devolved into chaos as light winds, drifting boats, and near-collisions marred the contest. The Galatea appeared to win at dusk, then Mayflower was later declared the victor after protests and inconsistent results.
