Washington reports the Sixth Illinois regiment will reach New York Wednesday and then proceed to Springfield to receive furloughs before muster out. Governors will decide whether to Muster out at homes or company armories, with final disposition following furloughs. New York plans a parade for arriving troops from Porto Rico after orders from Major General Miles. About fifteen sent to field hospital while convalescents rode home. The Sixth Illinois members listed include M. G Skinner Freeport and Sblablah. The veterans praised food medical care and courtesy under Major Boyd and found Porto Rico beautiful and rapidly Americanizing. They hope to return as soon as fit.
New York dispatch says Gen Garrettson and Sixth Illinois units with Battery A from Danville and Weehawken arrived aboard the transport Manitoba from Porto Rico. The soldiers are reported to be en route home at once. details mention Nashville battery and Company L. Louis H. Burge.
