Rennes Sept 9 Special report says the Dreyfus court martial opened with extraordinary precautions to prevent a disturbance. The verdict is reported as guilty and the Comtesse de Dreyfus sentenced to ten years imprisonment. the ruling is greeted with strong approval from the French army and its supporters.
In replying to a war ministry dispatch he refused to wait for Monday and declared that he takes orders from nobody and would deliver judgment today. The exchange frames a heated confrontation over the timing of the ruling.

Wes Dorris of Isabel, Clark County, writes that hands are scarce and the crop is ripe needing urgent attention to avoid thousands of dollars in loss. The governor is unavailable, and the private secretary suggests using newspaper ads to recruit help.
Beecham's pills cure sick headache. Members of Excelsior Lodge and other Masons of the city are earnestly requested to be present at Masonic hall at 6:20 Sunday morning to attend the funeral of Bros. Second Lieutenant John H. Baker of the Wisconsin National Guard married Miss Anna Lavin in Freeport amid family opposition over religious differences. The couple, engaged for months, traveled to Freeport to obtain a license and observe the required five days’ notice.
The Reverend Southgate of the Congregational church and a women’s committee protested the Pana Illinois street fair, urging mayor Corman to stop shows. They plan to testify before the grand jury next week about alleged gambling and immoral entertainments at the event.
Sprinarrexp Sept 8 Attorney General Akin states the 1899 medical practice act does not bar disease treatment by mental or spiritual methods when no medicine is used and that death during such treatment is not a criminal offense under Illinois law.
Charles Pontius of Clark Avenue, age 15, fell last evening and fractured his leg. Dr Firestone reduced the fracture and attends the patient.

He leaves a wife, his mother Mrs Angeline Marquart, a sister Mrs T H Arnold of Rock Island, and a brother John Henry Marquart of San Francisco. The funeral is set for 2:30 PM tomorrow at the residence with Rev Burling officiating.
