A Rockford jury found Dr W F Carver of Chicago not guilty of cruelty to animals for forcing a horse to jump from a 30 foot tower into water at the county fair. The trial, held in Justice Ross's court, drew many witnesses and strong legal minds, with fair officials backing the defendant.
Denver Sept 7 G W Varnum of this city received a reply from Johanon Most on the silver issue. Most argues gold should be the standard due to stable world costs while silver grows cheaper. He suggests using silver by market price not 16 to 1, perhaps 30 to 1, and mocks political contests as a monkey theatre. He endorses revolution and brands himself an anarchist not favoring any party.
In Clinton Missouri two men Ted Smith and Dick Barter were killed when a heavy wrecking machine fell through a bridge on the Kansas City Osceola and Southern line near Clinton as they attempted repairs on a bridge reported burned. The disaster occurred early today with the machine plunging into the gap, sending them to their deaths.
Special report: a counterfeiting gang is broken up with the arrest of Sam Walker, a Negro, at Alton and Avon in Illinois for passing counterfeit half dollars. Several accomplices escaped as Deputy U S Marshal Burroughs presented Walker before the East St. Louis commissioner.

London special report Gaudaur of Canada defeats James Stansbury of Australia in the single scull world championship on the Thames. The race for the title was rowed today with Gaudaur clinching the victory.
In Rockford Illinois a burglar awakened a Presbyterian minister and robbed the home. When Mrs Ely appealed to him about his mother he hesitated and explained his mother was an angel. He left the room and dropped all stolen goods while descending. The burglar's identity remains unknown.
Vienna Missouri September 7 Rudolph Mercke a noted citizen was shot five times and fatally wounded last night by J G Slate editor of the Times The shooting stemmed from an old feud Slate says he acted in self defense and the incident is under investigation by local authorities.

Tom Watson of Georgia spoke to about five thousand in Dallas on September 7. He attacked Sewall and said he would not withdraw in Sewall's favor. He declared Bryan must win as Bryan and Watson, and if Bryan loses he could blame Sewall.
