Buffalo witnesses the dedication of the McKinley monument during Old Home Week. A large crowd attended the ceremonies as the monument commission presented the memorial to the state. The day featured a military parade with two battalions of the Twelfth involved.
The McKinley monument dedication in Buffalo featured units from New York National Guard, the Thirteenth Royal Canadian Regiment from Hamilton and the Royal Fusiliers of London Ont. The event opened with prayer by Bishop William D. Walker, followed by addresses from Mayor James N. Adam and others, a presentation by E. H. Butler, and benediction by Bishop Charles H. Colton. A vast audience stood in a heavy downpour as governors, veterans, and Canadian troops observed the ceremony.
Crowds gathered around Niagara square to honor President McKinley with tributes by Governor Hughes and local dignitaries. Guards escorted speakers as storm clouds gathered, rain fell, and a large white obelisk tribute was revealed despite gusting wind and a torn flag.

A Freeport citizen promotes Doan’s Kidney Pills as a cure for back and kidney ailments. Mrs. J. B. Fisher of 143 Homer St. testifies to relief after trying the product from Emmett’s drug store. She credits Doan’s with improving her condition without other remedies. Sold by all dealers for 50 cents. Foster Milburn Co. are U.S. agents in Buffalo, N.Y. Remember the name Dean’s.
William Schaefer a Chicago attorney missing since August 22 was found wandering along the lake shore at Fifty third street soaked and unkempt. He said two weeks of illness and nervous exhaustion led him to live in Jackson Park sleeping on benches before money ran out and he wandered aimlessly. He had friends searching two weeks and was taken to Myrtle Park station for care. He is not married and holds several fraternal and civic memberships.
Rev George N Keniston of the First Congregational Church in Danville was acquitted by a circuit court jury of adultery with Miss Florence Dunsworth, mother of a child born when she was one year old, who testified as the principal witness after returning from Colorado. The trial lasted eighteen hours, the jury deliberated forty minutes, and Keniston plans to remain in Danville.
Survivors of Wilder's brigade meet in Charleston on September 6 for a three day annul session featuring campfire reception and speeches. Notable speakers include Willie Clovernor Deneen Senator Hopkins Representative McKinley and Major James A Connolly of Springfield. General Wilder and staff have arrived.
Springfield reports the Fourth Regiment Illinois National Guard will meet President Roosevelt in Cairo on October 3, with Mayor Parsons promising Cairo’s meal provisions. Tour leader Tour prided scenery for each attraction. Mr Newcomer supplied extensive stock scenery to create the proper theatre atmosphere. The local transfer company will move scenery from station to theatre all day. The stock scenery will not be used in the theatre to preserve the atmosphere. The production will be on an elaborate scale. The event occurs Monday night September 3 at the Grand opera house.
A full stage production titled Toyland will be presented at the Grand opera house on Tuesday night September 10. A trained company of artists has been assembled with careful selection and substantial expense to deliver a first rate musical show likely to keep opera houses crowded and attract standing room only crowds.
Melville Ezra Ingalls a leading American railroad magnate was born in Maine on September 6, 1842. After Bowdoin College and Harvard Law School he joined railroading in 1870, serving as receiver and later president of the Indianapolis Cincinnati and Lafayette line through 1889 and its subsequent reorganization.
