Fair draws crowds at Rockford suffrage day races
Thousands visited the Winnebago county fair in Rockford Illinois on September 2 for equal suffrage observances led by Mrs. Carrie L. Grout. The fair opened racing with two events showing prominent finishers in the Colt and trotting classes. A steamer collision in New York the same day sank the Rosedale with 160 aboard but all passengers were saved.

Prisoner Assaults Sheriff in County Jail Tussle
