State's Day Against Defense in Luetgert Case

Chicago Oct 7 The state began rebuttal in the Luetgert wife murder trial focusing on four defense points. Blaze destroys Dexter Park area in Chicago fire

A two hour blaze in Chicago starting at Dexter Park pavilion spread to a district between Halstead and Union avenues and Forty third to Fortyfifth streets. Loss about 60000 dollars, mainly the pavilion with 500 horses. several people injured and an unknown man burned to death. Rachel Kohn, a four year old, is believed burned in her home on Halstead street. Twenty eight houses and stores burned with small individual losses.

Lynching of Henry Crower Ends Mob Murder in Hernando

In Hernando Mississippi on October 7 a mob of about seventy armed men seized Henry Crower a 28 year old colored man who had confessed to seducing 16 year old Davie Ferguson daughter of farmer John Ferguson. Crower was lynched by hanging and shooting near the Ferguson home, body still swaying after the mob transported him eastward from the town. The orderly but firm crowd appeared well organized and Crower made no resistance as he was taken from the courthouse area.

Coincidence in Criminality in Iowa Indictments

Webster City Iowa October 7 a strange coincidence emerged as T J Rick was indicted by Hamilton county grand jury and his wife by Hardin county grand jury. Both faces assault with intent to kill in separate cases for offenses committed at the same hour August 11. Indictments voted at the same hour Tuesday. Rick is charged with stabbing Kinderknecht while Mrs Rick is charged with shooting a neighbor who visited her husband.

Murder of a Postmaster in Appin Saginaw County

On October 7 Duncan Paul postmaster of Appin was found dead with five gunshot wounds. Charles Wise of Abley was arrested after confessing to the sheriff that robbery motivated the killing.
