Reports from Wasumatox dated October 4 describe heavy action across Luzon. Captain Poor of the Sixth Infantry repelled a robber band. Lieut Grubbs was killed and four wounded. Special dispatch reports the murder of Frank Walker and his newlywed wife by a jilted lover Charles Rankin, who then shot himself. A child was seriously wounded by a stray bullet. The victims are prominent Montgomery County residents. Reports also note a five day armistice pending talks between insurgents and the government in Venezuela via Capt Hemphill and the warship Detroit with a plan to depart October 6 for Puerto Cabello to learn the outcome from the U S minister.
