Stewart Chosen President of Illinois Christian Endeavor Union

The Illinois Christian Endeavor Union held its tenth annual state convention in Hillinois with sunrise prayer at Central Baptist Church led by D. D. Watgon. Officers elected include Oliver W. Stewart as president, G A Wilson as vice president, Anna E Felt as secretary, and William S Dewey as treasurer. Reports showed 2300 societies with 160000 members. 90 missionary addresses in 49 counties by 21 speakers.

Brown Denies Railroad Pressure on Gold Standard Voters

In a Rockford statement O W Ferguson’s remarks are challenged. IBrown says railroad men invited to Freeport on a gold standard event were not coerced and that about 90 percent would vote for the gold standard. He denies directives from railroads to influence votes. Also notes a soldiers’ escort planning meeting for Generals Sickles and Howard in Freeport.
