Roosevelt recalls rough initial days at Camp Wikoff with mismanaged transport and scarce medical supplies. Witnesses describe nurses barred for secrecy, transportation delays, and shortages of doctors, rations, and hospital staff. He cites system failures rather than individuals as the root of privations faced near home.
Col Roosevelt recounts confusion at Tampa when Rough Riders were dumped miles from camp and lacked directions. He bought food for men and horses after 24 hours and later took command of a ship to reach Cuba. He says he did not seek reimbursement and notes good food overall except canned roast beef. He mentions disembarkation at Daiquiri and being among the first to land.
Freeport lawyer George Wallace testified about brutal neglect of soldiers at Camp Wikoff while searching for his son. He described slow transport, discharged but still awaiting aid, and costly meals charged to sick men. Wallace noted deaths aboard the Berkshire and questioned why food for ill servicemen required payment. Mrs Woodhouse corroborated other witnesses.

New York Nov 23 A Lenox Athletic Club crowd watched Jim Corbett and Tom Sharkey fight twenty rounds. The bout ended in the ninth when referee Honest John Kelly stopped it after McVey Corbett's second jumped into the ring. Sharkey was ahead, dominating early rounds. McVey’s interference prompted bets to be declared off and the decision given to Sharkey on a foul. Corbett blamed the foul on premeditated action. McVey stated he acted to stop low blows and clinching. Both fighters and officials weighed in on the controversial finish and its boxing implications.
