Vice President McKinley Dies After Prolonged Illness

In Patterson New Jersey on November 21 the vice president died at 8 30 after a day and night of failing health. He had been unconscious since midnight Angina petoris struck at 7 this morning and did not rally Mrs Hobart Garrett Hobart Jr and the nurse remained at the bedside from the moment of unconsciousness until death. The private secretary notified the White House at 7 30 this morning of the death.

Boers repelled after clash near Estcourt

Seven hundred Boers held high ground thirteen miles south of Tistcourt as Major Thorneycroft’s mounted infantry and Estcourt carbineers attacked. Three Boers were killed including the commandant, and the Boers withdrew with two captured cattle. The main Boer force south of Estcourt is reported to have retired.

Nation Committeemen Meet in Chicago Budget Hint

Democratic National committee adjourned and will meet again on call of Vice-Chairman Johinson. Chairman Jones holds place and due of the national committee meeting. The group expects the 1904 Democratic convention to endorse the Chicago platform with anti trust and anti imperialism planks likely adopted. Manila gunboat Helena reached Camagquin on Nov 12 and met the Charleston crew finding the wrecked cruiser bows wrecked but unlikely salvage. The Helena left due to heavy weather.

Battle near Bucaramanga yields heavy rebel losses

Panama dispatch reports a two day battle near Bucaramanga between government forces and revolutionists ending with a government victory. Over 1,000 rebels killed and 2,000 wounded. Also noted is a transfer of the Dewey home from Mrs. Mildred Dewey to Admiral Dewey's son George Goodwin Dewey. Fresh oysters offered at 15 cents per quart.
