In Patterson New Jersey on November 21 the vice president died at 8 30 after a day and night of failing health. He had been unconscious since midnight Angina petoris struck at 7 this morning and did not rally Mrs Hobart Garrett Hobart Jr and the nurse remained at the bedside from the moment of unconsciousness until death. The private secretary notified the White House at 7 30 this morning of the death.

Boers repelled after clash near Estcourt
Seven hundred Boers held high ground thirteen miles south of Tistcourt as Major Thorneycroft’s mounted infantry and Estcourt carbineers attacked. Three Boers were killed including the commandant, and the Boers withdrew with two captured cattle. The main Boer force south of Estcourt is reported to have retired.
