Canton Ohio November 17 Representative Boutelle of Maine and his daughter visited the McKinley home after arriving late on Sunday night. Ulysses Gluck of Chicago delivered an invitation from the Review club for a banquet, which McKinley declined. Major McKinley remained busy with callers and answered numerous correspondents. Two eagles from Whitewood South Dakota named Mark and Hanna were added to city park displays. Sherman of Ohio sent congratulations, praising McKinley and urging steady conduct after the election. Bryan commented on his New York speech and plans, insisting the address was aimed at the nation, not just a metro audience. A crowd gathered as Bryan spoke briefly from his train car platform.

Georgia voters learn Alexander Stephens Clay of Cobb county has won the Democratic caucus nomination for the U S Senate seat. On the thirty first ballot at 3 55 pm Clay led with 95 votes against Howell 40 Lewis 18 Norwood 6 Walsh 3 and Garard 2. Enthusiastic supporters escorted him to his Marietta home after the vote. Clay rose from farmer’s son to lawyer and politician. He served in the Cobb legislature, as speaker in 1883, then as state senator and presiding officer of the Senate.

Damages Paid in ARU Suit Involving O Rourke Blair
The Chicago Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway settled damage suits brought by John O Rourke and Robert Blair against the company and SE W McKenna, its former assistant general superintendent, by paying a sum in release of all claims. O Rourke and Blair were ARU members arrested in July 1894 on warrants charging obstruction of the mails and conspiracy against interstate commerce.
