Nov 9 dispatches from Tennessee and Kentucky report volatile returns in the Kentucky governor race. Early estimates claim Taylor leading with around 6,000 to 8,000 votes, while Goebel supporters insist a Goebel plurality persists. Sen Goebel today declared victory, signaling a possible post election dispute over the governor and lieutenant governor offices.
In Columbus on Nov 9 statisticians tallied unofficial county figures showing Nash Rep ahead of McLean Dem by about 60,304 statewide, with Jones projected toward 100,000. In Hamilton County McLean led Nash by 1,076, while Jones posted 12,876. Lucas County reports Jones governor lead, with Nash trailing.
Early returns from nearly half the counties show the fusionists leading Nebraska by about 12 000 votes. William Neville defeats Moses Winkard in the Sixth district for Congress. W S Allen, ex assistant general manager of the Rock Island, wed Miss Josephine Deltrich at a sister's home in Topeka just before midnight. Seconds later Allen’s former wife arrived from Chicago with their daughter Byrd to intervene, while a noon Grace Cathedral ceremony had been planned. The divorced wife plans to contest the suit, claiming coercion and drug effects at the time of signing.
Sioux City detectives probe a claim by a supposed widow over a large English estate left to Albert Charles Andrews, once of Chicago. A deposition by QR I McWheeters says Andrews drowned crossing the Missouri River near Sioux City on December 18, 1897, but river ice was thick and no record confirms the drowning, while the claimant is McPheeters’ daughter by a former wife, now remarried.

In Tomahawk Wisconsin on November 9 Andrew J McKeene shot Frederick Peterson through the heart, killing him instantly. Both men had worked as lawyers for the Alexander Stewart Lumber Company camp near Lawshow during the summer. They had been hunting deer when a quarrel led to the murder.
