Evangelist William A Sunday delivered a powerful revival in Freeport with large crowds and 73 converts by week’s end. Local clergy backed his message while defending press freedom amid rumors of censorship. Upcoming sermons promise teachings on Hell and the booze saloon versus home and state.
Last evening's sermon by Mr Sunday drew four thousand listeners as he urged personal surrender to Christ. He blamed sin and worldly wealth for spiritual loss, warned against hypocrisy, and pressed the need for parental example and home life as the foundation of faith.
The evangelist urged focus on the home to solve social and political issues. He cited Genesis 18 19 and warned that neglecting family influence harms children and society while condemning drifting from the straight path. The crowd of about eight hundred awaited his arrival after Memorial Day exercises with Prof Fischer.
