The Bancroft appeared later in pursuit, Wilmington last saw the vessels in a chase. Todd believes Bancroft will capture the scout.
Special dispatch reports the United States cruiser Baltimore wrecked by an explosion and lying on mud at Macabules. Early Madrid rumors of battle damage are dismissed as groundless, linked to prior Manila fight injuries.
At ten o'clock last night the dispatch boat Dolphin brought Schley’s messages to Samp son from off Cienfuegos. Captain Chadwick of the New York said absolutely nothing definite could be stated about what had occurred.

Teamsters hauling stone for paying contractors resumed work this morning at the old wage rate. Contractors say pay is by the yard and that loads can be increased if needed. they deny overloading claims and maintain wages are as high as in the city. The dispute arose from a few agitators, while the majority were content.
Banks in Freeport will be closed Monday for Memorial Day along with county offices and city scales closing in the afternoon. The holiday is observed as a legal day.
