Intruders Fire On Fort Taylor Guards Near Key West

Three swarthy intruders, likely Spaniards, tried to enter Fort Taylor last night near the mortar battery. A sergeant of artillery was wounded in the arm after exchanging shots. the intruders escaped. Captain Todd aboard the cruiser Wilmington reported a three masted steamer, likely a Spanish scout, fifteen miles off. The Bancroft appeared later in pursuit, Wilmington last saw the vessels in a chase. Todd believes Bancroft will capture the scout.

Stone teamsters return to work at old wages

Teamsters hauling stone for paying contractors resumed work this morning at the old wage rate. Contractors say pay is by the yard and that loads can be increased if needed. they deny overloading claims and maintain wages are as high as in the city. The dispute arose from a few agitators, while the majority were content.
