Conference paints bruise of vile attacks on bishops
Baltimore May 25 The Methodist Episcopal church conference now current will doubtless be long remembered for the number and peculiar character of the attacks on candidates for the bishoprics. Rev Charles J Goodell of Calvary Church New York suffers most from false stories and misrepresentations. A telegraphic report about Rev Joseph Hingeley secretary of the conference caused a brief impression in Minneapolis. Rev Dr George T P Eckman of St Paul's Center York is also subjected to dubious tales. A committee later issued a statement defending the integrity of the church and condemning the tactics used against the candidates.
