Washington May 16 The first conference of state governors ended with a pledge to conserve natural resources and to create a permanent coordinating organization among governors. The declaration presented to the conference argues for broad conservation and action to protect natural resources. It urges creation of a state commission to cooperate with federal efforts, opposes privately owned forests and waters, and emphasizes shared public benefit and preservation as essential.
At a post declaration session Bryan warned against predatory corporations and urged restraint on exploitation. The conference endorsed irrigation drainage and water transportation, calling for national leadership with state participation and noting future benefits for coming generations. Governors Wilks Folk and Sheldon were chosen to thank the president and form an executive panel to schedule a follow up meeting. Mrs Roosevelt hosted despite rain as over fifteen hundred guests attended closing events marking the first national conservation conference.

Aldrich promptly hailed a substitute for the Aldrich Willite car and that form passed and went to the house. Legislative cleanup in the house continued ahead of May 25 with military academy and tramibus building bills approved and many private pension bills passed.
The event reports Bryan visiting Washington with remarks from Democratic leaders about support for mining schools and education endowments. The discussion notes anticipated backing from several states and references a bill approved by the Senate.
