Cedarville May 18 Correspondents report a busy week of visits and travel. Notables include Rev. John C. Sills visiting, Grace Zaispe and mother from Jewell City, street improvements, and a successful Union C E Society social won by Ronul Taft and Frank Yengle. Local church plans, family updates, and a noted appointment in the internal affairs bureau are mentioned along with upcoming memorial addresses and church events.
Baileyville reports a funeral for Mrs. Leanora Gronwaldt at the German Valley Reform church on Ascension day. Visitors include Frank Brockiiire of Freeport and piano tuner Mr Loos, with local calls and travels by Rev Drawel and others as week ends.
May 14 report notes Mrs. Pater and Nellie Fair with Neva Hett visiting Lena for the guardianship of Mr. and Mrs. Loy Liphart. Owls Cantrill moves to the August Rotzilatf residence. Albert McDaniel buys the Bradley Diveley property.

Mrs Brandt visits parents Mr and Mrs Anton Frey. Florence ball team loses to Freeport College of Commerce. Dance at M W A hall Friday night May 24 invites all. Miss Kintzel visited Freeport Sunday.
From Our Own Correspondent. May 13. Davis will have one saloon less after Wednesday night of this week. The M W A lodge has secured Horace Huron of Rock Island Illinois to give a talk for the Opera house Friday night May 17. There will also be readings and musical numbers. Willie Kanne of Freeport visited his parents a few days last week. John Johnson moved into the A M Johnson house north of Sheckler Bros grocery last week. Mrs Helen Oren and baby of Lewistown NL is visiting her mother Mrs A Wise. Dr Brundage of Rockford was a professional caller here Wednesday. Miss Thompson of Wisconsin visited her father Q A Thompson a few days last week. Willie Ende of Beloit was a caller in town Wednesday. Dr G S Krape the Freeport dentist is in Davis every Wednesday one door north of the Degunther barber shop. Mr Hostetter gave two good lectures in Davis Sunday in the Calvary church in the evening and in the Lutheran church in the afternoon. Dr Cleveland was called to Shirland TL a few times last week to see Dr Eaken who was quite sick with pneumonia but is improving at present. Ulysses McHovs the implement dealer is having a good run on babe.

Red Oak records note Miss Anna Kattan visiting Freeport for several days. Harry Snook and family were guests of John Alevers and Mr and Mrs Walters of Pennsylvania visited John Red. Services were led by Presiding Elder Barngey of Rockford yesterday evening.
Shannon May 14. Amos Yordy transacted business in Freeport Tuesday. Several Freeport passengers and Lanark visitors traveled through Shannon Wednesday and Thursday. Residents with Chicago, Lanark, Hudson and Milwaukee connections visited Shannon over the week.

Springfield May 15—Governor Deneen signed the pure food bill after careful checks by the state chemist and governor. Lawmakers meet at noon to consider extending the Des Plaines Joliet drainage canal and a proposed deep waterway to the gulf with opposition from down state leaders and questions of power transfer to the Chicago drainage district.
Roy Schreiner, 15, of Toast Alton, Illinois, swam 200 feet to rescue his unconscious 11 year old sister Alice from Wood River. He reached shore exhausted and gasping beside the prostrate girl, while their 7 year old brother John waited on a log a mile away.
Burlington May 14. Impelled by the 2 cent fare in IshMinois and Missouri, the Chicago and Alton will conduct thorough tests of gasoline motor cars starting June 1 to cut train movement costs on short lines. Three cars of the Strang type have been secured.

The Tri City Master Builder association orders a halt in work by workers in Rock Island Moline and Davenport due to a labor dispute. Care centers demand higher wages triggering the idle period and a regional strike action.
Robbers blew open the safe of the exchange bank at Holveston ten miles south of Centralia Til on May 15 and escaped with between 1000 and 1400 dollars. No crew is reported. The bank is owned by S P Cooper and is the town's only bank.
The second annual convention of the Minors Independent Telephone association met in Springfield UK on May 15 with about 150 attendees.

The New York Tribune reports Professor Ravenstein calculating Earth's capacity for fertile lands at 207 for square mitre, steppes 14 million, deserts 1 million.
