The Rockford Insurance Company in Rockford Illinois was sold today to a syndicate of Eastern capitalists led by Joseph B Challender of Chicago. The price is 384000 dollars equating to 820 dollars a share with over 300000 already paid to stockholders. John Lake retires as president. to be succeeded by W B Barbour, current vice president. Charles E Sheldon remains secretary. Offices likely to stay in Rockford. Capital stock to be increased to 500000 dollars. Names of buyers withheld. The firm was organized in 1867 and remains prominent in the insurance world.

In Caicaco on May 13 four teen-year-old Tommy Crosby was acquitted of murdering Deputy Sheriff Nye. His foster mother Margaret Crosby was found guilty of manslaughter as an accessory before the fact and given a one year sentence in the penitentiary. The officer had been attempting to serve a writ of ejectment.
