New York May 12 Miss Helen Gould denies raising a regiment under her patronage for Cuba. The published notice prompted a flood of letters from men eager to enlist in the regiment.
Washington May 12 The senate yesterday confirmed George Dewey to rear admiral nomination sent in yesterday W V Lucas to be register of the land office at Chamberlain D J C Auld and W V Alderson of Montana to be commissioners to examine into and classify lands within the land grant and indemnity land grant limits of the Northern Pacific Railroad company
