Indeterminate Prisoners in Illinois to Be Freed

Warden McClaughry of Joliet penitentiary reports the Illinois Supreme Court ruling nullifies indeterminate imprisonment, freeing about 600 inmates. Chester and other prisons face similar releases, but funds to cover expenses are unavailable. Each inmate receives 18 dollars in benefits, including clothing and rail fare, totaling 18,200 for Joliet alone. The move may trigger a large rise in released criminals across major cities.
