A head end crash between a regular passenger train and a wild engine near Roscoe injured and killed multiple crew. James Walsh of Janesville died, a brakeman known as English perished, engineer William Walker died, conductor oy G. H. Devins and firemen J C Coan and William Williams were injured. Floyd K. Whittemore of Springfield was unanimously indorsed as the Republican candidate for state treasurer by Stephenson county Republicans at Freeport. The banker and former U S sub-treasurer in Chicago was urged to allow his name amid strong local support. He has long been a Springfield resident and a prominent Republican.
